Gathering Hymn

The Living God (Sebastian Temple)

Sing praises to the living God, Glory Hallelujah

Come adore the living God, glory hallelujah

Though sun and moon may pass away

The word will ever stay,

God’s power is for evermore

Glory hallelujah

Refrain

Glory to the trinity. The undivided unity,

The Creator, Son and spirit one, from whom all

life and goodness come.

Sing praises to the living god, we sing, Glory Hallelujah

Let our love and praises ring, Glory Hallelujah

To each of us God always gives mercy and love

Praise God now for ever more

Glory hallelujah

Refrain

Sing to the God who can not die, Glory Hallelujah

To the living God we cry, Glory Hallelujah

God promised to be with us and lives in everyone

Love God now for evermore

Glory hallelujah

Refrain

St. Patrick is said to have explained the Holy Trinity with a clover leaf and the Celtic church often uses interwoven knots of three in one. The Holy Trinity is less about doctrine and more about relationship! Many people feel that they are far from God today -- unworthy, alienated and at odds. On a very deep level many of us think that if we are good enough, religious enough we will earn God's love. We find it hard to understand grace. And yet we belong to the heart of The Trinity--not because of what we have done to earn the love of God but because of the deep, unconditional, unending love that God has for us

Gathering Sentences (Rex Hunt Liturgies)

God beyond all names and all images

we worship you in faith

God in the Christ with a human face

we worship you in truth

God who moves, draws, forms and enlightens our life

we worship you in spirit

God in relationship

God the beginning and God the end, you are our God

As we gather in our spaces made sacred by our shared lives and yearnings, may we find new courage, new generosity of spirit, forgiveness given and received and rededication to the higher purposes of our lives

Canticle (Galatians 3:26-28)

For in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith

as many of you as were baptized into Christ

have clothed yourself with Christ,

There is no longer Jew or Greek

there is no longer slave or free,

there is no longer male or female

for all of you are one in Christ Jesus

The Proclamation of the Word

Isaiah 6:1-8 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. And one called to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory." The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with smoke. And I said: "Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!" Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: "Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out." Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I; send me!"

Psalm 29 Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory of his name; worship the LORD in holy splendor. The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD, over mighty waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the LORD flashes forth flames of fire. The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the LORD causes the oaks to whirl, and strips the forest bare; and in his temple all say, "Glory!" The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever. May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!

Romans 8:12-17 So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh-- for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, "Abba! Father!" it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ--if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.

Gradual Hymn

The Play of the Godhead (MV 43)

The play of the Godhead, the trinity’s dance

Embraces the earth in a sacred romance

With God the creator and Christ the true Son

Entwined with the spirit, A web daily spun

In spangles of myst’ry the great three in one.

The warm mists of summer, cool waters flow

Turn crystal as ice when wintery winds blow.

The tap-root that nurtures, the shoot growing free

The life giving fruit, full and ripe on the tree:

more mystic and wondrous, the great One in three.

In God’s gracious image of co-equal parts

We gather as dancers uniting our hearts.

Men, women and children and all living things

We join in the round of bright nature that rings

With rapture and rhythm, Creation now sings!

The Gospel

John 3:1-17 Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. He came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God." Jesus answered him, "Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above." Nicodemus said to him, "How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother's womb and be born?" Jesus answered, "Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be astonished that I said to you, 'You must be born from above.' The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." Nicodemus said to him, "How can these things be?" Jesus answered him, "Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things? "Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. "Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Prayer over the Gifts

Affirmation of Faith

We Are Not Alone (Uniting in Worship 2)

We are not alone, we live in God's world

We believe in God: who has created and is creating,

who has come in Jesus, the word made flesh,

to reconcile and make new,

who works in us and others by the Spirit

We trust in God

We are called to be the church:

to celebrate God's presence,

to love with respect in Creation.

to love and serve others,

to seek justice and resist evil,

to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen..,

our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death,

God is with us.

We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Amen

Prayers of Intercession (Dancers and Wayfarers C. Thorpe)

For all who have not known love, for children who have been neglected, for all who have been

abandoned, for all who live with a sense of being unwanted:

Silence for prayer

know yourself, held in the heart of God's love

For all who have been taught to feel shame, all who live with a sense of being unworthy, blemished, dirty. for those who have been abused or raped, for those who have been rejected because of their sexuality:

Silence for prayer

know yourself, held in the heart of God's love

For all who feel lonely, isolated or cut off from others, for those living with depression or other mental illness, for all who are becoming housebound through disability or aging

Silence for prayer

know yourself, held in the heart of God's love

For all who are struggling with illness, and those who care for others, for all who are in chronic pain, or waiting for treatment, for all who are facing the end of their life

Silence for prayer

know yourself, held in the heart of God's love

For all who have died, all whom we have loved, for those who seemed to have no one to mourn their death, for those who die alone

Silence for prayer

know yourself, held in the heart of God's love

God of grace, may we all know that we are held in the heart of your love. May we realize that we are cherished and belong, that there is nothing that we need to do to earn our place, but simply to open our eyes, to see the new perspectives and possibilities before us. Give us your deep confidence now, to live from that place of grace and peace, in Christ and through Christ. Amen

The Lord's Prayer

The Blessing

God the Holy Trinity,

Father, Son and Spirit,

hold us now in the place where we belong, in your heart of love.

Bless us now as we open our eyes,

to see one another as beloved children,

to see your image set in each one of us, to know that we are loved. Amen

Closing Hymn

Let There Be Light (Paul Melley)

Holy and blessed three, glorious trinity

Wisdom love and might!

Let there be light!

Let there be light!

You, whose almighty word and chaos and darkness heard

Let there be light!

Victor of sin and death

Giver of holy breath

Let there be light

Holy and blessed three, glorious trinity

Wisdom love and might!

Let there be light!

Let there be light

Hope for all you bring

On your redeeming wing

Let there be light

Dawn out of sinful night

Making the darkness bright

Let there be light

Spirit of truth and love

Life giving holy dove

Let there be light

Bringer of holy fire

Aim of our hearts desire

Let there be light

Holy and blessed three

Glorious trinity

Wisdom love and might

Let there be light

Let there be light

Oh! Let there be light

As we draw this time of worship together to a close having worshiped together in our own places may we feel enlivened and renewed

and may the wisdom of the spirit that we have received this day show itself in deeds of compassion and acts of love and understanding

may the fruits of the spirit be apparent in our lives

as we convert them into loving and responsible action and only then will this time be what we want it to be-- worship in Spirit, truth and action. Thanks be to God. Alleluia

Postlude

The Spring Has Come (VU 187)

The spring has come,

let all the Church be part of it!

The world has changed,

and God is at the heart of it!

New light, new day,

new color after winter grey,

new light, new day,

the spring has come,

let all the Church be part of it!

The sun is warm,

let all God's children play in it!

The world expands,

let's spread the Gospel Way in it!

New leaf, new thrust,

new greening out of winters dust,

new leaf, new thrust,

the sun is warm,

let all God's children play in it!

The spring has come,

new people are the flowers of it!

Through wind and rain,

new life is in the showers of it!

New bud, new shoot,

new hope will bear the Spirit's fruit,

new bud, new shoot,

the spring has come,

new people are the flowers of it!
