FOR ALL THE SAINTS….

Prelude Hymn: Piano Instrumental

For all the saints… including you!

Acknowledgment

Opening/Gathering Hymn: For All the Saints CP 276

For all the saints, who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia! Alleluia!

Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might: thou, Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight; thou, in the darkness drear, their one true light. Alleluia! Alleluia!

O may thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold

fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,

and win with them the victor’s crown of gold.

Alleluia! Alleluia!

O blest communion, fellowship divine! We feebly struggle, they in glory shine; yet all are one in thee, for all are thine. Alleluia! Alleluia!

And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long,

steals on the ear the distant triumph-song,

and hearts are brave again, and arms are strong.

Alleluia! Alleluia!

The golden evening brightens in the west; soon, soon to faithful servants comes their rest; sweet is the calm of Paradise the blest. Alleluia! Alleluia!

But lo, there breaks a yet more glorious day- the saints triumphant rise in bright array: the King of glory passes on his way. Alleluia! Alleluia!

From earth’s wide bounds,

from ocean’s farthest coast, through gates of pearl, streams in the countless host, singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia! Alleluia!

Opening Responses:

One: In the beginning, before time, before people, before the world began,

God was.

One: Here and now, among us and beside us,

enlisting the peoples of the earth for the purposes of heaven,

God is.

One: In the future when we have all turned to dust, and all has found its fulfilment.

God will be.

One: Not denying the world, but delighting in it, not condemning the world, but redeeming it,

through Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit,

God was, God is, God will be.

All: Amen.

The Collect

Almighty God, whose chosen servant Abraham obeyed your call, rejoicing in your promise that in him the family of the earth is blessed, give us faith like his, that in us your promises may be fulfilled; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

PSALM 146

REFRAIN: Praise the Lord, O my soul! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. R Put not your trust in rulers, nor in any child of earth, for there is no help in them. When they breathe their last, they return to earth, and in that day their thoughts perish. R Happy are they who have the God of Jacob for their help! whose hope is in the Lord their God; Who made heaven and earth, the seas, and all that is in them; who keeps his promise for ever; Who gives justice to those who are oppressed, and food to those who hunger. R The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind; the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; R The Lord loves the righteous; the Lord cares for the stranger; he sustains the orphan and widow, but frustrates the way of the wicked. R The Lord shall reign for ever, your God, O Zion, throughout all generations. Hallelujah! R

The Gospel

THE HOLY GOSPEL OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO MARK One of the scribes came near and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that Jesus answered them well, he asked him, "Which commandment is the first of all?" Jesus answered, "The first is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' The second is this, 'You shall love your neighbour as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." Then the scribe said to him, "You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that 'he is one, and besides him there is no other'; and 'to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength,' and 'to love one's neighbour as oneself,' - this is much more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." After that no one dared to ask him any question. MARK 12:28-34

The Homily: For All the Saints and for All my Relations

Affirmation of Faith

In the God of all creation we have our life and being, people of divine imagination. Born of love, for freedom and for truth.

In the God in Christ, we see the vision for our journeying, taking unknown paths through crucifixions and resurrections, treading past our fear with passionate hearts, into the small places where life is re-born.

In the spirit of joy and dreams we live in the face of struggle, laughing and weeping in the center of our pain, celebrating the power of our solidarity with all those who stand for love and hope. Amen.

Offertory music (Gradual Hymn): When I Needed a Neighbour- VU 600

When I needed a neighbour, Were you there, were you there? When I needed a neighbour, were you there? And the creed and the colour And the name won't matter, Were you there? I was hungry and thirsty, Were you there, were you there? I was hungry and thirsty, were you there? And the creed and the colour And the name won't matter, Were you there? I was cold, I was naked, Were you there, were you there? I was cold, I was naked, were you there? And the creed and the colour And the name won't matter, Were you there? When I needed a healer, Were you there, were you there? When I needed a healer were you there? And the creed and the colour And the name won't matter, Were you there?

Wherever you travel

I’ll be there, I’ll be there,

Wherever you travel I’ll be there.

And the creed and the colour

And the name wont matter,

I’ll be there.

The Offertory Hymn: Blessed Feasts of Blessed Martyrs- CP 284

Blessed feasts of blessed martyrs, holy women, holy men, with our love and admiration

greet we your return again.

Worthy deeds are theirs, and wonders, worthy of the name they bore; we, with joyful praise and singing, honor them for evermore.

Faith prevailing, hope unfailing, loving Christ with single heart, thus they, glorious and victorious, bravely bore the martyr's part, by contempt of every anguish, by unyielding battle done; victors at the last, they triumph, with the host of angels one.

Therefore, all that reign in glory, strong and sure with Christ on high, join to ours your supplication when before him we draw nigh, praying that, this life completed, all its fleeting moments past, by his grace we may be worthy of eternal bliss at last.

Prayer over the Gifts God of freedom, accept all we offer you this day. May we embrace the law of your service and know the glorious liberty of the children of God. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord.

Eucharistic Prayer

The Prayer of Jesus –

Abba, Amma, Beloved,

your name be hallowed,

your reign spread among us,

your will be done well at all times, in all places,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us the bread we need for today.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Let us not fail in the time of our testing.

Spare us from trials too sharp to endure.

Free us from the grip of all evil powers.

For yours is the reign, the power and the glory,

the victory of love, for now and eternity,

world without end. Amen and Amen

Communion Hymn: Blessed Are You By Sarah Hart

Do you know how blessed you are when you are poor?

When your spirit has been tried, your hope outpoured.

Do you know how lovely will be your reward?

Yours is the kingdom.

Do you know how blessed you are when you must mourn?

When the tears are endless rivers in your soul.

You shall feel the hand of God that draws you close,

in consolation.

Blessed are you, blessed are you.

In whatever trials and troubles you walk through.

The love of God will not abandon you,

blessed are you.

Do you know how blessed you are when hunger comes?

When no earthly drink can slake the thirst within.

It is then you find the fullness of his love

Poured out upon you.

And when peace is like a rumor on the wind.

And when mercy fails to make her presence known.

Hope will give you all you need to be a light

that heals the darkness.

Blessed are you, blessed are you.

In whatever trials and troubles you walk through.

The love of God will not abandon you.

Blessed are you.

Oh my child, there will be struggle still to come,

persecutions for the sake of love and truth.

Do not be afraid for you are not alone,

Blessed are you.

Blessed are you, blessed are you,

in whatever trials and troubles you walk through.

The love of God will not abandon you,

Blessed are you.

The love of God will not abandon you,

Blessed are you.

Prayer After Communion Heavenly Father, bring to perfection within us the communion we share in this sacrament. May the unity we know this day live in our community and family. This we pray in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord.

The Blessing: As we have been gathered, so must we be sown back into the world to witness to the power of God's transforming love, to support and challenge each other, to bring healing and justice to the world around us.

And now may the God who shakes heaven and earth,

Whom death could not contain,

Who lives to disturb and heal us,

Bless us with the power to go forth

And proclaim the gospel. Amen.

Postlude: When the Saints Come Marching In

Oh, when the Saints, go marching in,

Oh, When the Saints go marching in,

Oh Lord, I want to be in that number,

When the Saints, go marching in.

Oh when the sun begins to shine,

Oh when the sun begins to shine,

Oh Lord, I want to be in that number,

When the sun begins to shine.

When the trumpet sounds the blast,

Oh, when the trumpet sounds the blast,

Oh Lord, I want to be in that number,

When the trumpet sounds the blast.

When the new world is revealed,

Oh, when the new world is revealed,

Oh Lord, I want to be in that number,

When the new world is revealed.

Oh when the Saints, go marching in.

Oh, When the Saints go marching in,

Oh, Lord, I want to be in that number

When the Saints go marching in.
